What is the criterion Medicare uses to determine if they will pay for a power wheelchair or scooter?
First, you must have a medical diagnosis as to why you are unable to operate a manual wheelchair.You must NEED to use this power wheelchair or scooter to move around your residence.You must be unable to safely walk on your OWN inside your home, or push a manual wheelchair on your OWN.
If I have a Medicare HMO, will they pay for the power wheelchair or scooter?

Once we receive the required paperwork from your doctor, a certified healthcare professional will contact you to schedule a time to deliver and setup your power wheelchair, instruct you on how to use it, and answer any additional questions you may have.
How long will the batteries of my power wheelchair last on a single charge?
Once you have fully charged your power wheelchair batteries, which need to be done daily, they will normally last for a full day. Most power wheelchairs have a range of at least 15 miles on a single charge.
Can I get accessories such as Oxygen holder, Cane holder, Walker Holders, or lift with my power wheelchair?
Yes. We have a wide range of accessories. Medicare will only pay for those they deem as medically necessary.
What is the safest way to transport my power wheelchair?
The safest way to transport your power wheelchair is by breaking it down into pieces and loading it into your trunk or van. However, the pieces can be quite heavy, and you may require some assistance from a loved one. If your power wheelchair can not be broken down, we suggest you consider a lift for your power wheelchair. We are an authorized power wheelchair lift dealer.
What is the expected life of my power wheelchair batteries?
If you take good care of the batteries, and charge them regularly, your batteries should last between one and two years.
If I need to replace my batteries, will Medicare pay for new ones?
If your power wheelchair is not responding, it may be time to replace the batteries. Simply call us at 866-387-2668 and we will assist you in replacement batteries. Medicare will cover 80% of the set allowable. Your supplement or Medicaid should cover the 20% balance.

During your first year of ownership if you need service of any kind for your power wheelchair, you can call us toll free at 877-368-3772, and uScoot will handle the repairs. Many times we can diagnose your problem immediately over the phone. After one year, Medicare will pay to service your wheelchair in your home.
